Like all great stories, this one started by chance.
In 2015, Cathal Quinn, proprietor of Flanagans on the Lake, and Shane Huber, a recent arrival from California, stumbled upon a 50-year-old cask of whiskey at a liquidation auction in Dublin. The whiskey, described as nothing short of nectar, marked the unintentional start of a journey that would lead to the founding of Killaloe Whiskey Company. As for that exceptional cask? Its contents were so extraordinary they never made it to market!
Cathal, who acquired Flanagans on the Lake in 2010, transformed the bar's tower into a dedicated Whiskey Tower - a place where stories, friendships and whiskey flow freely. The formation of a whiskey club brought Cathal and Shane together with Dave Cassidy and Dave Sullivan, and the four bonded over their shared love for quality, character and the quiet magic that happens when good whiskey brings people together.
Four friends. One vision. Exceptional whiskey.
By 2019, the four friends began experimenting with the maturation of whiskey in wine casks β ex-Rioja, Crianza and Chardonnay to start. The results? Three exceptional releases launched in 2024 and the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Irish whiskey history.
What started as experimentation became obsession. What started as friendship became legacy.
Where the Shannon flows & legends live on.
Killaloe Whiskey Company was founded not by design, but by discovery. Four friends with one passion: crafting whiskey that honours the spirit of where it started - in a tower by the lake, among kindred spirits.
Housed on the banks of Lough Derg, every bottle tells the story of Killaloe β a place shaped by strength, ambition and connection. A place where Ireland's last High King once ruled. A place where whiskey ages with purpose.
The ancient town of Killaloe is a place where ideas, and whiskey, age well. Once the seat of power for Ireland's last High King, Brian BorΓΊ, now Killaloe is a vibrant community with a rich whiskey story.
